The Marine and Ports Division was under the leadership of the Director for Marine and Ports the whole year. The Director is responsible for the overall operations of Marine division. The functions and responsibilities of the Division are divided into the following units:
1. Maritime Safety and Security Unit
2. Maritime Environment Unit
3. Outer Island Ports Unit
4. Administration Support Unit

Marine and Ports Division functions
1. Facilitate trade and acts as catalyst for economic development
2. Play a central role in making sure that the passengers and cargoes are safe
3. Ensure that ship owners/operators, masters and crews comply with the relevant Acts and legislation
4. Ensure that every player in the industry comply with international maritime law and Tonga’s legislation and regulations
5. Develop when necessary any guideline for ships to adopt in matters related to safety, security and the prevention of marine pollution
